Coast Guard Mariner Physicals

Coast Guard Mariner physical examinations performed to certify that mariner is physically fit and has no mental conditions to limit his or her ability to operate or work on a vessel.  A complete physical examination and DOT drug test will be performed to certify that the applicant is physically fit to perform the tasks necessary on a ship during ordinary and emergency conditions.

What happens during a merchant mariner physical?

  • Be prepared to provide at least 45cc of urine for the DOT Drug Test.  
  • You will complete the Application for Merchant Mariner Medical  Certificate if not already completed.
  • Certified physician will review the MMMEF with you.
  • A Complete Physical Examination will be performed as per the CG-719K Merchant Mariner Credential Medical Evaluation Report.
  • All paper work will be completed and reviewed with applicant to submit to the U.S. Coast Guard.
  • CG-719P (DOT/USCG Periodic Drug Testing Form) will be completed by Medical Review Officer (MRO), and will either be provided to applicant or directly to U.S. Coast Guard.
